Student’s families piled into West Boca Raton High School’s theater to watch their graduating seniors pick up awards and scholarships for college all right before Teacher Appreciation Day May 3.
Principal Craig Sommer said, “We have close to $3 million in scholarships,” on stage during his first awards night. He also gave homage to teachers and said, “It’s all about students who have done something special.”
The school’s Vanguard Band that marched in London this year played from the aisle, and Haley Sherman got a big hand for her National Anthem.
Cheering sections of students and relatives reacted as a steady procession of students accepted scholarships and certificates handed out by organizations and department heads, introduced by scholarship coordinator Sara Firestone. Janice Faustin included parents in her shout-out before giving out the science department awards.
